It's time for a stand...Buyers or Sellers?June 10, 2011 11:13 am
We have hit that point of the season Mets Fans...the team is 2 games under .500 and on an important road trip. Two out of three from Milwaukee and now we head to Pittsburgh for the 3 game weekend series. Can our favorite team make some hay on this road trip and carry the momentum into the All-Star break? Many questions still to be answered:
1) Will Jason Bay come around and produce? 2) How serious is David Wright's injury and when he returns will he have any power? 3) Will Johann Santana be productive this year, or even pitch at all? 4) Can the starting rotation continue to throw quality starts as they have over the last 2 weeks? 5) Will Ike Davis need surgery on his ankle that does not seem to be healing? 6) How much longer can this make shift lineup that includes Turner, Tejada, Murphy, and now maybe Duda stay productive? 7)AND THE BIGGEST QUESTION OF ALL...WILL THE METS BE IN A POSITION AT THE TRADING DEADLINE TO NOT GIVE AWAY HALF OF THE TEAM SO WE HAVE TO START ALL OVER AGAIN? Please post your comment and add in your questions as well...Brad

When Santana pitches he gives it his all, he is a eral winner. Saw him pitch his last game at Shea, he won and pitched a complete game. I was sure the Mets would win that last game, no luck...
The team is in a good way right now, they just beat a team that hit 5 HRs, Mets are awsome! I say leave it the way it is! Do we need Wright's strike outs? I know he is one of our top guys, I think he will come back stronger, but not to srtike out, please. Can the Wilpons pay everyone enough to keep the team together? Let's hope so, I really like the team the way it is, thumbs up to Terry Collins, maybe that is the key? It's time for a stand...Buyers or Sellers?June 24, 2011 11:30 am
OK..Lets break it down on your comments:
If you trade away all those players whos going to fill in for the allways injured?First of all, I expect some return if I trade some of the younger players like Tejada or Martinez. Secondly, I would like to see some of our young players come up in combo with players like Hairston and Harris to fill the spots. JayBay is done. His power is gone. Ike Davis is done for year.Although I must agree that Davis may be done for the year, I think Bay will be productive for the rest of the season. As a Red Sox fan, you would be happy if his last great season was with your team. He is only 32, not 38 or 39 and he has plenty left. David Wright says he will be back in 3-4 weeks. Jose Reyes wants huge money and I get the impression he really doesnt want to play there anyways. Carlos Beltran is having a fine year BUT has yet to attempt to steal a base and dont think hes going to get the talent your hoping for on the trade market. I am not worried too much about Wright even though I think his days as a 25 HR hitter are gone. Back problems = less power. The Reyes situation will come down to money as New York is still the best baseball town in this land of ours. If we have the money, he will stay. Beltran has 3 SBs this year and that is not the stat that teams will be looking at. He has 10 HRs in 261 AB and on this pace should finish the season with about 25 HRs and 100 RBIs. He will be a very attractive player for a team making a playoff push, especially in a small ballpark where the OF is not as big or an AL team where he can DH once a week. All in all, I have no argument about the ownership but they don't take the field. I appreciate the kind words about me sticking with my team through thick and thin but that is what Mets fans do. I know you can understand that after the Red Sox did not win the WS for over 80 years before the 2004 Championship. Lastly, I have no illusions of getting past Philly, but I am hoping for a run at the Wild Card. The last couple of weeks of this win 2/lose 2 is disheartening but, a good run to the trading deadline could go a long way... THERE IS ALWAYS HOPE IN METSVILLE! Lost year.atleast you havent lost faith.if you trade away all those players whos going to fill in for the allways injured?JayBay is done. His power is gone.Ike Davis is done for year.Johan Santana continues to have setbacks.David Wright says he will be back in 3-4 weeks.Jose reyes wants huge money and i get the impression he really doesnt want to play there anyways.Carlos Beltran is having a fine year BUT has yet to attempt to steal a base and dont think hes going to get the talent your hoping for on the trade market. And to top it all off your owner is a meatball. But mr big its nice to see someone stick by there team thru thick and thin. But until ownership drops some big money its going to be hard for mets to get past philly.

Here is my answer...
I want the Mets to move Beltran in his walk year and get whatever they can...I would like to see if Kirk Nieuwenhuis is ready to hit Major League Pitching. I also want them to move KROD and give Parnell a shot to close...both of these sholud bring some good prospects. If they are in any position to have a shot at the wild card...I would like to see them move F. Martinez, Murphy, and maybe Tejada and try to pick up some SP in return...or even a decent hitter to play 1st base like Juan Rivera from the Blue Jays or maybe they can pry Loney from the Dodgers. he will never fit into the Mattingly mode and he can be a doubles machine at Citi Field. I am sure that that have to re-sign Reyes no matter what even though the price may be steep. I hope the Santana can come back and help down the stretch and that Capuano gets better as the season progresses. I do believe that Bay will hit and I don't think anyone will pick up his contract and I think Wright will come back and hit for average but not power...I am afraid that Davis is done for the season. There are a lot of ifs here but I am a diehard Mets fan and I have lived with the ifs since 1966...Brad

Ok here are what my answers would be.
1. Yes but not for the Mets. He will be traded before his contract runs out and it will be good for the other team. A kinda Josh Beckett/Mike Lowell trade where the sox had to take Lowell to get Beckett. Then Bay will shine as he ends his career. 2.Seems serious and if Reyes or Beltran is gone he will not get anything to see unless Ike or Bay turns into a monster. Ike is hurt so that doesnt seem possible and as for Bay see #1 3.Johan will pitch and be productive to the point that he will be ready for next year. 4.Yes, maybe & no. Can't expect the world out of them, the bullpen and offense is going to have to produce to keep the Mets around .500 baseball. 5.Yes but after he comes back for awhile and the Mets realize it is better to shut him down and save for next year than possibly ruin his career. 6.How much longer until wright and ike come back, or until the end of the season whichever comes first. 7.I think the Mets will trade three players, Reyes Beltran and K-rod. Why k-rod well let another team pick up that wonderful option or maybe it's like Wright's option and it will be null and void if he's traded. And here's my question to you. Do you want the Mets to trade players that are at the end of their contract and get something in return, or just ride it out with no possibility of going to the playoffs? |
